Sundog Starts Tonite!

In case you're not familiar, let me tell you what Sundog is. First off, a sundog is the phenomena that happens when the sun creates a halo, when the light of the sun refracts off ice particles suspended in the air. The Sundog Festival is Vernon's own iteration of the Culture Days celebrations, a program started last year across Canada, where communities host (mostly free) events in celebration of their local culture and arts.

Culture Days, as a title goes, is a bit uninspiring, but the Sundog Festival is an event that is planned on in this community for years to come.... this just happens to be the first one.

Another component of Culture Days is the community that does the most events, wins... so if you want to get involved in the coming weeks, and get publicity through the Culture Days website for any event you'd like to host, reach out to the Arts Council of the North Okanagan.

Tonite, we'll be in the park for Howl of the Night - the first day of music and events as part of a two day kick-off party being held in Polson Park. We've got the Crashlanders, Mother Sun, the Nightshades and the Pseudos playing in the bandshell from 5 to 9. The market will be setup from 4 to 8, including Two Sparrows Pizza, Shabbang, Just Dawgin It, Kamui, My Big Fat Greek Truck, Yeti Kettle Corn, and Lil Lia's Froyo for dinner choices on the oval.

Tomorrow is an even bigger lineup of music, Covenant Lion, Earnest Anyway, Uncle Brad, Norsu, October Poppy, The Whelms are replacing Ranger (had to cancel due to illness), Saband and finishing off with Daysormay! There will be performances from local First Nations including the Okanagan song and the friendship dance (very cool if you haven't seen/participated before) as well a polynesian dancers, Kinshira is performing, and there will be a bouncy castle/slide, and I can't even remember what else right now... It all starts at Polson at noon and goes till 9, our vendors will be setup from 1 to 7 roughly.

Saturday's food truck lineup: Wicked Waffles, Ogopogo Mini Donuts, Two Sparrows Pizza, Just Dawgin' It, Yeti Kettlecorn, Trisha's Treats and Lil Lia's Froyo. I might have a couple bonus ones showing up, we'll see.
